A Chemist of a distillery experimented on two alcohol solutions of different strength, 35% alcohol and 50% alcohol, respectively. How many cubic meters of each strength must he use in order to produce mixture of 60 cubic meters that contain 40% alcohol?

35% = x

50% = 60-x

40% = 60

0.35(x) + 0.50(60-x) = 0.40(60)

0.35x + 30 - 0.5x = 24

x = 40m3(35% solution)

60 - x = 20m3(50% solution)
